New event series “AHA Pub Knowledge” with Willi Weitzel

Munich: The new event series “AHA Wirtshaus-Wissen” kicks off on May 18 at 4 p.m. at the Hofbräukeller on Wiener Platz, focusing on the forest—and its role as a habitat, recreational area, source of building materials, and climate protector. TV reporter and world explorer Willi Weitzel (“Willi wills wissen”) will speak with experts from various fields and take children, parents, and anyone else interested on a fascinating journey of discovery. Participants include Dr. Thassilo Franke (Bavarian State Collections of Natural History), Prof. Dr. Michaela Hau (Max Planck Institute for Biological Intelligence), Prof. Dr. Raoul Klingner (Fraunhofer Institute for Wood Research WKI in Braunschweig), and Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Ludwig (Technical University of Munich). The event is organized by the new initiative “AHA – The Science Communication Hub.” It is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts and aims to foster dialogue between science and society and highlight Bavaria’s strength as a center for research. The AHA network includes Munich-based universities, research organizations, academies, and museums. Bavaria’s Minister of Science, Markus Blume, emphasizes: “The Science Communication Hub is our positive response to anti-science sentiment and skepticism. Bavaria is a hub of science brimming with optimism for the future, great ideas, and groundbreaking innovations. Talent and technology are at home here. Our goal: to convey this mindset to the public, to inspire enthusiasm for research and progress, and to instill confidence in the future. One thing is certain: science communication in the age of fake news and filter bubbles is not an option, but a necessity.”

 

In addition to “AHA Wirtshaus-Wissen,” the initiative is planning, among other things, a series of events on energy issues. As part of the 2025 Year of Science, “Energy of the Future,” explanatory videos are being produced in collaboration with the Munich-based animation studio “in a nutshell – kurzgesagt,” accompanied by dialogue events. This project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (formerly the Federal Ministry of Education and Research). The new website www.aha.bayern brings together public events in the fields of science and research in the Munich area.
