New event format "AHA Wirtshaus-Wissen" with Willi Weitzel

Presenter of "Willi wills wissen" talks to experts about the forest / Organized by new initiative "AHA - The Science Communication Hub"

Munich: The new event format "AHA Wirtshaus-Wissen" (AHA Pub Knowledge) kicks off on May 18 at 4 p.m. in the Hofbräukeller on Wiener Platz with the topic of forests – and how they function as habitats, recreational areas, sources of building materials, and climate protectors. TV reporter and world explorer Willi Weitzel ("Willi wills wissen") talks to experts from various fields and takes children, parents, and anyone else who is interested on a fascinating journey of discovery. Participants include Dr. Thassilo Franke (Bavarian State Collections of Natural History), Prof. Dr. Michaela Hau (Max Planck Institute for Biological Intelligence), Prof. Dr. Raoul Klingner (Fraunhofer Institute for Wood Research WKI in Braunschweig), and Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Ludwig (Technical University of Munich). Admission is free, but registration is required at https://eveeno.com/wirtshaus_wissenschaft_2025.

The event is organized by the new initiative "AHA - The Science Communication Hub". It is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts and aims to support the dialog between science and society and highlight the strength of Bavaria as a research location. The AHA network includes Munich universities, research organizations and academies as well as museums. Bavaria's Science Minister Markus Blume emphasizes: "The Science Communication Hub is our positive response to hostility and scepticism towards science. Bavaria is a science location full of optimism for the future, great ideas and ground-breaking innovations. Talents and technologies are at home here. Our aim is to convey this mindset to the population, inspire enthusiasm for research and progress and instil confidence in the future. One thing is certain: Science communication in times of fake news and filter bubbles is not an optional extra, but a duty."

In addition to "AHA Wirtshaus-Wissen", the initiative is also planning a series of events on energy issues. As part of the Science Year 2025 "Future Energy", explanatory videos are being produced in collaboration with the Munich-based animation studio "in a nutshell", which will be accompanied by dialog events. This project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (previously the Federal Ministry of Education and Research). The new website www.aha.bayern brings together public events from the fields of science and research in the Munich area.
