Board of Directors

The Executive Board is responsible for the strategic direction and further development of the Hub and supports the Secretariat in prioritizing topics, target groups, and formats. The Executive Board consists of the Hub’s Scientific Director (who serves as the Board’s spokesperson) and other members from the leadership of the Hub’s member institutions.

Michael Decker is the Director General of the Deutsches Museum and, in that capacity, is responsible for the institution’s operations, which include approximately 550 employees. The physicist is also a professor of science communication and technology assessment at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). His research focuses on concepts of technology assessment, the methodology of transdisciplinary research, and the technology assessment of artificial intelligence, robotics, and nanotechnology.

He headed the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis in Karlsruhe and held a university professorship in technology assessment at the Institute of Philosophy at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Most recently, he headed the Division of Computer Science, Economics, and Society at KIT, which encompasses KIT’s three faculties—Computer Science, Economics, and Humanities and Social Sciences—as well as the KIT programs “Engineering Digital Futures” and “Energy Systems Design” of the Helmholtz Association.

Michael Decker is a full member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) and spokesperson for the acatech Working Group on the Foundations of Science and Engineering. He is the spokesperson for the Network for Technology Assessment (NTA), chairman of the Advisory Board on Innovation Impact Assessment (INSIGHT) at the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR), and founding chairman of the “Technology in Dialogue” Advisory Board of the Association of German Engineers (VDI).

Dr. Christoph Egle is the Scientific Director of AHA – The Science Communication Hub. He has many years of experience in the German science system—particularly at the intersections of science, politics, and society—and in science communication tailored to specific target audiences.
After holding various positions in research and teaching at the universities of Heidelberg and Frankfurt am Main, as well as at LMU Munich, Egle—who holds a Ph.D. in political science—transitioned into scientific policy consulting and science management. At the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech), he headed the secretariat of the German Federal Government’s Innovation Dialogue until 2018. He then served as head of the division for digital future technologies at the Bavarian State Chancellery and the Bavarian State Ministry for Digital Affairs. From there, Christoph Egle moved to the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities BAdW), where, as managing director, he helped establish the Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation (bidt), a position he will hold until the end of 2025.

Beatrice Lugger is a science communication expert, science journalist and graduate chemist. Until the end of 2024, she was Managing Director of the National Institute for Science Communication, NaWik, which she helped to set up in 2012. For almost two decades, she worked for numerous German print and online media, including Süddeutsche Zeitung, FOCUS, Techonology Revies and WIRED. As a social media expert, Lugger set up the ScienceBlogs.de platform for blogging researchers and managed the social media presence of international events such as the Lindau Nobel Prize Meetings.

Beatrice Lugger has published various specialist articles on science communication topics and is active in various committees, including as a steering committee member of the BMFTR's #FactoryWisskomm.

Jeanne Rubner is Vice President Global Communications and Public Engagement at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). The science journalist began her career at the Süddeutsche Zeitung, where she was most recently a senior editor in foreign policy. From 2012, she was head of the Knowledge and Education News department at Bayerischer Rundfunk. Jeanne Rubner is a physicist and holds a doctorate in artificial intelligence from TUM, where she is also an honorary professor at the School of Social Sciences and Technology. She is the author of several books on brain research and politics and has been awarded the Universitas Prize for Science Journalism by the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer Foundation and the Medal for Scientific Journalism by the German Physical Society.
