Exhibition: “Renamed.”

Exhibition : Street Names and the Culture of Remembrance in Munich after 1945.” An Exhibition the culture of remembrance, street names, and how to deal with the legacy of Nazism

For 80 years, LMU’s main building has been located at Geschwister-Scholl-Platz 1, which—like other streets and squares in Munich—was named after members of the White Rose. The decision to honor victims of the Nazi regime and members of the resistance by naming streets and squares after them was intended to symbolize the political reordering of Munich and its break with National Socialism.

The Exhibition focuses on the political and social debates that took place immediately after the end of the war regarding how to deal with the legacy of National Socialism, acts of honor, and the culture of remembrance. Curated by LMU students under the guidance of historian Constanze Jeitler, Exhibition to rediscover the city map as a reflection of historical debates and current struggles over interpretation.

In cooperation with the Chair of Modern and Contemporary History, the White Rose Foundation, and the City Archives of the State Capital of Munich.
