Canada's Role on the International Stage

A panel discussion with Ambassador Vera Alexander

The event will Language in Language .

The international system is undergoing a period of profound disruption, marked by great-power rivalry, economic coercion, and increasing pressure on the rules-based international order. In this evolving global context, Canada has positioned itself as a principled and pragmatic middle power—committed to multilateralism, democratic values, and close cooperation with like-minded partners.

This public event brings together academic, policy, and diplomatic perspectives to examine Canada’s role on the international stage, with a particular focus on its transatlantic engagement and partnership with Germany. The discussion will explore how countries such as Canada and Germany can work together to uphold international norms, strengthen economic resilience, and contribute to a more stable global order.

The Canadian Ambassador to Germany, Vera Alexander, will deliver a keynote address on Canada’s role on the international stage, followed by a panel discussion with Dr. Meike Zwingenberger, Director of Amerikahaus, and Dr. Andreas Etges of LMU Munich.
