Guided tour the Church of the Holy Trinity, featuring frescoes by Cosmas Damian Asam
The frescoes in Munich’s Church of the Holy Trinity, painted between 1714 and 1715, are not only among the earliest independent works by Cosmas Damian Asam (1686–1739), but also serve as a striking testament to the artistic skill he acquired in Rome. The underlying concept stems from a vision experienced by Maria Anna Lindmayr (1657–1726), the daughter of a Munich burgher. Her mystical vision prompted the three estates of Munich during the War of the Spanish Succession to make a vow, which was fulfilled with the construction of the new votive church beginning in 1711, based on plans by Giovanni Antonio Viscardi (1645–1713).
