Art at CAS: Olaf Probst – CATASTROPHE IX + hi s stoeryies
Mushroom clouds appear as overwhelming, almost sublime formations of unsettling beauty. Yet they are the visible signature of a deadly reality: humanity’s capacity for self-destruction. Images of mushroom clouds are created by technical devices—they are both documentation and a media construct, oscillating between evidence and illusion. In his artistic work, Olaf Probst explores the relationship between Language, writing, text, and visual form. Using the motif of the mushroom cloud, he demonstrates how images become texts and texts become images.
Olaf Probst studied at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart under Rudolf Schoofs, Sotirios Michou, and Jürgen Brodwolf. He lives and works in Munich.
