Dazzlingly beautiful

Nature is full of colors - from soft nuances to magnificent tones. Not all of them are based on dyes. Some color impressions are only created by the structure of the surfaces. Depending on the incidence of light, iridescent color effects are created.
Bright butterflies and iridescent beetles have also inspired Augsburg photographer Thomas Büchsemann to take razor-sharp macro shots. This requires a good eye and a good dose of inventiveness.
In the special exhibition at the Bionicum, you can find out how many individual steps are behind a single photograph. You will see the fascinating insects closer and clearer than ever before. Try out how iridescent colors are created in nature and how such surfaces can be produced in the laboratory.
Based on the special exhibition "Ganz nah - Kleine Käfer ganz groß", Museum Mensch und Natur Munich (2023). Made possible with loans and materials from the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and the Bavarian State Natural History Collections.
