BananaRama – A Journey of Discovery into the World of Bananas
How did the banana become a subject of research? And why is it so important for a future with food security?

The Exhibition – A Research Journey into the World of Bananas” provides the answers. It explores the world of bananas from the laboratory to the field, from their biology to their vast diversity, offering fascinating insights into banana research: How can new varieties be bred? What do drones have to do with banana cultivation? And why is gender equality an issue in agriculture?
Interactive elements and selected exhibits demonstrate the role of international agricultural research—and why preserving variety, protecting against plant diseases, and accessing knowledge can be vital. The focus is on the plantain, a staple food for millions of people worldwide.
The Exhibition organized by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Drawing on the work of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), it highlights that food security and climate change are global challenges that we can only address together.
