Are rappers poets? Poetry in contemporary music

“Rappers are poets!” That’s not true at all, some adults think. But if you take a closer look, you’ll see that rappers play with words. They rhyme, come up with clever and distinctive phrases, and tell stories.

And that is exactly what poets do. In this lecture, we will set out together to discover the poetry in contemporary music.

And we look back at literary history, to a time when poetry and music were as closely intertwined as they are in today's pop music.
